President Ivan Gasparovic handed over credentials to eight new Slovak ambassadors in Bratislava on Monday. In his speech delivered during the ceremony, he said ambassadors would have an opportunity to offer know-how of Slovakia's success in countries, which did not experience such boom. He reminded that ambassadors should not only search for ways of bringing countries together but they should also present Slovakia as a sovereign, democratic and free country, whose citizens are equal in their rights and duties.
The new designated ambassadors include Jozef Dravecky who should serve at embassy to the Holy See, Vladimir Jakabcin in Turkey, Peter Kmec in Sweden, Jan Kuderjavy in France, Dagmar Repcekova in Romania, Anna Turenicova in Cyprus, Jan Voderadsky in Greece and Peter Zsoldos in Egypt.
Deputy chairperson of the parliamentary foreign committee and former Minister of Foreign Affairs Zdenka Kramplova (LS-HZDS) was disappointed by presentations of the new ambassadors delivered at the session of the parliamentary committee at the end of June. In their presentations, the ambassadors outlined the concept of their work in individual countries where they will represent Slovakia. She told SITA News Agency that she could not identify herself with the contents of these presentations and probably some of the new designated ambassadors do not meet the requirements for this post. That is why she suggested that in the future designated ambassadors attend a meeting of the parliamentary foreign committee before being approved by the cabinet and appointed by the president. She expressed her objections to the general contents of the presentations. She suggested that the parliamentary committee should deal in September with the question how these presentations should look like.
